Detox your way to beauty

Every day your body does battle with environmental pollutants and toxins and your looks are the ultimate losers.  "Minerals in tap water can dull hair, pollutants can dry out skin and carbon monoxide and ozone can damage your complexion's protective barrier and lead to aging, redness and irritation" says Dennis Gross, MD, a dermatologist in New York City.  It's enough to make anyone crawl inside a BPA-free plastic bubble.  Fortunately, experts say that a few small changes in your diet and beauty care routine can give your hair and skin a detoxifying beauty boost.  Prevention Magazine April 2011 Read more:

Detoxifying is a preventative method of caring for your body and may include massage, dry skin brushing, fasting, chlorophyll, exercise & deep breathing, dead sea mineral mud masks, enemas, foot baths and herbs.

MASSAGE-Massages are a wonderful way to relax and unwind after a long, hard work week. Helping your body work better and become more healthy, massages are an ideal way to keep your physical and mental health in check. With a huge variety of massages available, you can find the right one for you. Read more: About Massages |
DRY SKIN BRUSHING-Dry-skin brushing is a great way to detoxify your skin and remove chemicals and pollutants. The method stimulates the lymph canals to clean the blood and tissues, improves muscle tone and helps eliminate cellulite. Massaging the skin with a brush improves your skin's circulation and helps to remove dead skin cells. You can enjoy the relaxing sensation of self-message while also detoxifying your skin and improving your overall health. Read more: How to Detoxify the Skin |
FASTING-The detox fasting diet is an effective, if not controversial, method of losing weight and removing dietary toxins from the body. The diet has seen a recent resurgence in popularity lately, but the practice is far from new. Monks and spiritual leaders all over the world have fasted for spiritual reasons throughout history. Read more: A Detox Fasting Diet |
CHLOROPHYLL-Chlorophyll is found in all green plants, vegetables, blue-green algae such as spirulina and chlorella. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has published a recent study to show chlorophyll has anti-cancer protective qualities in 140 rainbow trout that were induced with cancer. Those who were fed chlorophyll did not die. People who want similar protective effects and also to detox, can consider taking wheat grass juice "shots", consuming spirulina or chlorella, both of which offer chlorophyll. Read more: Detox With Chlorophyll |
DEAD SEA MINERAL MUD MASK-Moor mud may not be one of the most glamorous forms of treatment in the world, but it is certainly one of the oldest. Moor mud packs and masks were used by the ancient Egyptians and Romans for various ailments as well as beauty treatments, and were often given with other spa treatments as part of a cure. Therapeutic mud often comes from areas around mineral springs, and the high mineral content of the mud is regarded as one the main reasons for its beneficial effects.Cleopatra is said to have prized it so highly as a beauty treatment that she persuaded Mark Anthony to conquer the region and present it to her as a gift. Read more: How to Use a Moor Mud Treatment |
ENEMAS-The alleged detoxification benefits of enemas are many. For example, Enema Web makes the claims that "Coffee enemas are very stimulating to the liver, and are a great aid in eliminating its toxic poisons." They also claim that these enemas cause a relaxation in the liver and gallbladder region that eases pain, and that they may even cause you to pass gallstones. These benefits may be questionable. The Mayo Clinic reports, "There is no evidence, however, that detox diets actually remove toxins from the body. Most ingested toxins are efficiently and effectively removed by the kidneys and liver and excreted in urine and stool." And enemas can sometimes be unsafe. If done wrong, they can cause an imbalance of electrolytes and may even rupture the lower intestines and cause serious internal bleeding. It's possible that enemas may also cause heart murmurs. Read more: Detoxify With Enemas |
FOOT BATH-Go to your local spa or natural healing center for an ionic foot bath. In 2003 the Nobel Prize for Chemistry was awarded to Peter Agre and Roderick MacKinnon, "whose research became the foundations that inspired the development of ionic principles and detoxification through water channels." The ionic foot bath stimulates the feet's large pores to eliminate toxins promoting physical and mental energy, vitality and overall well-being. Drink plenty of water, relax and enjoy your treatment. The therapist will take care of everything. Read more: Detoxifying Footbath |
HERBS-Many things contribute to the buildup of toxins in our bodies, such as years of unhealthy eating habits, exposure to chemicals and breathing in environmental pollutants. This can lead to physical problems and illnesses. That is why it is very important to periodically cleanse your internal organs through detoxification. Consult your doctor if you have never conducted a herbal detox or have never consumed herbal supplements.Cleansing your colon, liver, kidneys and gallbladder will enable you to function more efficiently physically and help restore energy and stamina. It may also be necessary to rid your body of any parasites through a cleanse. There are a number of simple herbal remedies that can aid you in the detoxification process. Read more: How to Detox With Herbs |
EXERCISE & DEEP BREATHING-The body is engineered to heal itself to get rid of toxins and to keep the body running as efficiently as possible. With exercise you clean all of your internal organs at the same time. Exercise accelerates the detoxification process. As you exercise, the blood circulates throughout the body, bringing nutrients to all the organs and muscles. Exercise also helps lymph fluids circulate the body, which removes toxins and other harmful materials. When exercising you breathe deeply and take in more oxygen, which helps all the cells to perform their jobs, including removing toxins. At the same time you exhale carbon dioxide, which is a by-product of the various functions performed by the body. As you do aerobic exercise you build up a sweat and toxins are released through the pores of the skin. Exercising also helps you to lose weight by reducing the amount of fatty tissues in the body. As the fatty tissues grow smaller the toxins stored in fat are released into the body. These toxins must be removed. Fasting and herbal remedies are two ways to get rid of these toxins in your body. Read more: How Does Exercise Help Detox? |
